Question: As a pet owner do you prefer to board, kennel or have your pet cared for outside of your home (whether boarding facility or private home) OR do you prefer to have a pet sitter visit or stay at your home while you're away? Recently I've heard varying opinions and wonder what you all think or prefer. I really appreciate your help. I can see advantages to both situations and at SNUGGLES we are here to please our customers (and their pets). So please take a few moments to share your thoughts with us. Our goal is to help people with their pets; pets are a valuable addition to our lives and the more we know the better we can serve you.
Are you afraid your dog is too submissive? Does your pet squat and pee when meeting new people? When a dog piddles upon greeting people, this is a canine sign of respect. She is acknowledging that your guests outrank her, and she is showing deference to them. Of course, our human interpretation is completely different! That's important to understand, so the more agitated you or your guests get, or if you scold her, she will think she hasn’t done a very good job of paying respect. She’ll think she has to try harder, and therefore pee more.
Instead, of disciplining her try asking guests to completely ignore Your dog for the first 15 minutes of their visits. They should not talk to her or make eye contacty. When the initial excitement of their arrival has passed, they should seat themselves on the floor and let her approach them. Without making eye contact, they can gently scratch her chest. They should NOT pet her on top of the head. In canine language, this is a very assertive gesture. They can talk sweetly to her, but they should not make a big fuss. If you make greetings very laid back and casual your pup may still roll over and show her belly, but that’s okay. She’ll get a belly rub! And who doesn't love a belly rub!! It's better to have a dog that's chill than one who greets your guests with growling teeth, ready to attack!! |
